Prerequisites
You must be logged
in as Administrator to the server and have basic knowledge of server
management.

Process
When you update to the latest version of 3f Software Planner all uploaded
files are backed up, then the old version is uninstalled automatically.
This part is handled by an update assistant which you must download
separately from the 3f Software Planner setup.
Next you install the latest version of 3f Software Planner. Upon
installation, setup automatically restore the backup of the files and
update the database to finish the update.
Before you begin, it is always a good idea
to make a
full system backup (Uploaded
files and database)
Step 1 Login using an
Administrator account
You must be logged in to the system you want to update with an
administrator account.
Step 2 Download the
update assistant
Download the update assistant on your desktop. The update assistant will
guide you during the update process. To download go to
http://www.3f-project-management.com/download_files/3FUpdate.exe
Step 3
Download 3f Software Planner full version
You need a full setup to upgrade. To download the latest full version of
3f Software Planner consult the email send to you with the upgrade notice.
Step 4 Double-click 3FUpdte.exe
This step will backup your database, files uploaded to your existing
system and uninstall your current version.
Dialog 1 - Stop IIS
When you click yes the IIS server will
stop. If you click no the update process
will stop.
Dialog 2 - Progress Stopping IIS
While the IIS is being stopped you will
see a screen that looks much like the one
below.
Dialog 3 - Backup Warning
Confirmation that you backed up the
database.
Dialog 4 - Choose Backup Destination Drive
When the IIS has been stopped you will see
a dialog box that display all fixed drives
on the computer or server with enough
space to backup the uploaded files.
Choose the drive you want to use then
click the Backup button to start the
process. Depending on the number of
uploaded files this process can take some
time to complete.
Note: If you do not see any drives
listed then that means you do not have
sufficient space on your computer or
server. If this is the case please contact
technical support. The update can still be
done but it is somewhat more
complicated.
Dialog 5 - Backup completed
When the uploaded files have been backed
up you will be prompted before the 3f
Software Planner is un installed. Click
"Uninstall" to continue.
During the
de-installation process click 'Yes' when ever you are prompted.
The uploaded files have now been backed up and placed in a folder
"3fBackup" on the drive you selected. Explore the folder, but do not
delete anything!
Step 5 Restart
When the old version of 3f Software
Planner has been uninstalled restart your
computer or serve
Step 6 Installation of new version
When you are ready to install the new version do the following:
6.1 Remove the folder
C:\3f Software Planner 2005 (or C:\3f Software Planner 2006) (assuming that
3f Software Planner was installed in this folder) manually.
6.2 If you upgrade from version 3.0000.0000 then you will also need to
remove this folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$IPLAN2005
If you cannot find the above mentioned folders, just start the
installation of the new version. If the folders exists you will be
prompted by Install Shield to remove them as well as where they are
located.
6.3 Install 3f Software Planner as you
would install any other software.
Step 7 System Update PAY ATTENTION
When the new version has been installed
the system automatically detect that you
are performing an update. The system does
however give you the option to either
upgrade or create a fresh installation.
Click YES to upgrade.
If you are not prompted the above dialog box when you click Finish after
the installation simply double click the 3f Software Planner icon on the
desktop.
During the upgrading process you will see this dialog. Note the actual
update process can take some time depending on the number of files you
have uploaded to the system.
When the upgrade is finished you will see this dialog. You can now go
ahead and use the upgraded 3f Software Planner.
Step 8 Delete Backup Folder
When you have verified that the update was successfully completed you can
delete the "3fBackup" folder and its content. Do not delete it before you
are 100% that the update was successful.
