Being a web application the 3f Software Planner sends information to and receives information from the client computer in 'plain text'. It is very easy for a hacker to 'spoof' information being send forth and back over the Internet unless the information is encrypted.

Depending on your particular situation you may want to create a SSL certificate and apply that on the "iplan" folder of the 3f Software Planner. You have two options:

a) You can purchase a signed certificate from companies like godaddy.com or verisign and install that on your server.

b) You can create your won self-signed certificate and install it on your server.

If you choose the latter you data will be just as well protected as if you purchase a certificate. The different is that you'll be shown a warning message box that identity of the certificate cannot be verified. It may look intimidating at first, but the data are just as well encrypted as with the a signed certificate.

The 3f Software Planner was designed to by used both with and without 128-bit SSL encryption. Once you have install the certificate (signed or self signed) you can access the 3f Software Planner as follows:

Secure (SSL)
https://I.P.Address.of.your.server/iplan/ (Where you substitute I.P.Address.of.you.server with the server's I.P. address)

Non secure

http://I.P.Address.of.your.server/iplan/ (Where you substitute I.P.Address.of.you.server with the server's I.P. address)

Note: The above addresses are examples from a standard installation. You may have a special installation that requires you to use, for instance, a different port hence the url would look different. Consult your system administrator for help on this if you experience problems.
