Moving your server is something that you must plan ahead of time. Depending on your network and your experience level this will take about 30 min to do. During the moving process nobody can work with the 3f Software Planner.

Step 1.

Always make a full system backup of your current system regardless how experienced you are. There is a complete knowledgebase article discussing the steps you need to take to backup your database. Make a full system backup

Step 2.

You install 3f Software Planner 2006 on the new program server you want to use. During the installation process you will run the wizard that setup the database and enter your first user account as you would if you were installing the 3f Software Planner for the first time.

Step 3.

Copy all the files and folders found in the folder "3fUploadDownload" of the old 3f Software Planner installation into the "3fUploadDownload" of the new installation. (See image below)  This step is very important because this is where all the files uploaded to the system are placed!

Step 4.

In this step you have to, either restore the database on the program server, or point to a different database server. (where the database you want to use is located)

Restoring the database on the program server

1. Copy the backup of the database form the "old" server to the c drive of the "new" server.

2. Restore the database on your new server. There is a complete knowledgebase article discussing the steps you need to take to restore your database. Restore Database  (Only follow step 1 - 5, step 6 onwards deals with how you restore uploaded files. You manually did that in step 3 above hence you can ignore that)

Using a database located on a different server than the program server

If you have your database on a separate database server the procedure is slightly different. You will have to "Point" the program server to the database server, you are basically telling the program where to look for the database. There is a complete knowledgebase article discussing the steps you need to take to point your program server to a database server. Point application to use a database on a different server

Note:

1. If the database you restore is a lower version than the 3f Software Planner the database structure will be updated during the process.

2. If you are moving a registered program server you will have to request a new registration key. The system will enter into a 3 day demo mode while your new key is being processed. To see how you get a new registration key click here

Tip: If you cannot see the source server then you may have a firewall (software or hardware) preventing you. Close the program, turn off the firewall, then try again.
